A History of the World in 100 Objects from the British Museum
The exhibition
originated from a popular radio programme of the BBC with the British Museum,
telling the story of human civilisation using 100 objects selected from the
encyclopedic collections of the British Museum.
These man-made
objects from various geographical areas, trace human activity from 2 million
years ago to the present. In addition to exquisite art pieces, a larger
proportion of exhibits are daily utensils and implements, including currency,
scientific instruments and ritual items.
This exhibition has travelled through various cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Tokyo, etc. Museums which host the exhibition may choose one object to reflect the world today. "Optical fibre" is featured as the 101st object here in Hong Kong. The University Archives has contributed 3 images of Professor Charles Kao, the "Father of Optical Fibres", to facilitate the exhibition.
Venue: Hong Kong Heritage Museum
