中國文化研究所 Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS)

中國文化研究所成立於1967年11月1日,以「結合傳統與現代,融會中國與西方」為使命,促進中國文化及相關領域的研究。研究所首任所長由李卓敏校長兼任,臨時所址設於九龍彌敦道545號安利大廈,而首項重點工作為創辦《中國文化研究所學報》。1971年,沙田校園中的中國文化研究所落成啓用。研究所四合院式設計出自大學建築師司徒惠手筆,並得著名建築師貝聿銘提供意見。

現時研究所下設文物館 (1971)、翻譯研究中心 (1971)、中國考古藝術研究中心 (1978)、吳多泰中國語文研究中心 (1979)、當代中國文化研究中心 (1993)、劉殿爵中國古籍研究中心 (2005),及中國研究服務中心 (1963;2013年加入研究所),同時積極與校內多個與中國研究有關的單位建立合作關係,推動中國研究。研究所主要出版物包括:《中國文化研究所學報》、《二十一世紀》、《中國語文研究》、《譯叢》、及《漢達古籍研究叢書》等。各單位亦常出版專刊、叢書及其他學術專書。

The Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) was established on 1 November 1967. It aims to “combine tradition with modernity, bring together China and the West” by promoting the research and study of wide-ranging fields in Chinese studies. Dr. Choh-ming Li, the Vice-Chancellor, was also the first Director of ICS. ICS was originally located in the On Lee Building, 545 Nathan Road, Kowloon, and the first task of ICS was to publish the Journal of Chinese Studies. The building of ICS on the Shatin campus was completed in 1971 which was designed by the University Architect, Szeto Wai, in consultation with I.M. Pei.

Under the Institute of Chinese Studies are the Art Museum (1971), Research Centre for Translation (1971), Centre for Chinese Archaeology and Art (1978), T.T. Ng Chinese Language Research Centre (1979), Research Centre for Contemporary Chinese Culture (1993), D.C. Lau Research Centre for Chinese Ancient Texts (2005), and the Universities Service Centre for China Studies (1963; joined ICS in 2013), Besides, units from different departments and disciplines have been affiliated with ICS in order to strengthen inter-disciplinary cooperation in Chinese studies, facilitating the efforts to make CUHK a premier international hub of Chinese studies. The following periodicals are published by the Institute and its various units: Journal of Chinese Studies, Twenty-First Century Bimonthly, Studies in Chinese Linguistics, Renditions, and The CHANT (CHinese ANcient Texts) Series, etc.
